If you’re in the Bay Area, my favorite San Francisco Opera performance of last season, Rigoletto by Verdi, will be broadcast on Classical 102.1 KDFC this Sunday at 8:00pm. I need a radio-tivo.

I love opera (the music! the singing! the staging! the plot!), and I’m stoked Ruth Ann Swenson is returning to perform with the San Francisco opera next season in “Ariodante” by Handel. Last fall, the “Rigoletto” performance was so phenomenal, the high I felt afterwards was like drugs. I think “Ariodante” has a chance to be just as amazing. It helps that Swenson is one of my favorite divas. She has this ephemeral voice that’s pure and light, and she rocked in the “Marriage of Figaro” last summer.
